I tested this cable with 2 PCs (one with an AMD RX 6800, one with a Geforce GTX 1650) and 4 monitors. For DisplayPort output and 1080p or 4k, it just worked with no trouble. Crisp picture and correct refresh rate.
However for my 1440p monitor, the computer seemed to believe that it was connected to a 4k monitor, so even when I set the desktop resolution to 1440p, windows would still stretch that to 4k for the monitor, and then the monitor would have to squish it back down to 1440p. This, of course, results in some blurriness and image degradation. I was able to fix that by bumping the refresh rate to 144hz, which "tricked" windows into using the correct resolution, I think because the port didn't have the bandwidth to do 144hz at 4k.
Lastly, I tried it on a 1600x900 monitor, and this time the computer believed it was a 1080p monitor, again going through the upscaling and downscaling dance even when I'd tell windows the correct resolution to use. But in this case I couldn't bump up the refresh rate and was just stuck with a blurry picture until I switched cables.
I also tried the cable in reverse just to see, but that did not work. It has to go from DisplayPort on the computer to HDMI on the monitor. (To be fair, that's the only way it was advertised, but I figured it was worth checking.)
