Not to blame shoddy work on the tools, but I do find that I can do much better soldering work with this iron v.s. the cheap ones I've always used in the past. Being able to precisely set the temperature and know when the iron has reached it is very handy.
The display shows the iron reaching temperature in like 15 seconds - this isn't quite accurate, as it's measuring the inside of the iron and it takes a bit longer for the tip to reach temperature. Still, it's fast, like under a minute to hit 400+ degrees.
