I like Cara Bastone’s books, but this might be my favorite one yet. To all those yammering on about the miscommunication in the reviews and how this book would only be 10 pages without it you can just shut it. I feel like you have clearly not taken a relationship through something traumatic and good for you, I love that for you.
As someone who is more than 15 years into my marriage shit happens and it isn’t easy to come through trauma intact and whole as individuals. It can be especially hard to come through trauma as a couple. This couple did not have kids but did care for their extended family and those responsibilities take their toll too especially after sustaining trauma.
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this one based on some of the reviews but I’m glad I let a friends recommendation override my hesitations and misgivings because I found the book to be incredibly relatable and true to my experience of surviving and healing from trauma. I also loved the storytelling and use of creative expression in general in this book. And no single author has made me want to try life in New York City more but I’m pretty sure it isn’t for me.
Also this is the only book that used the pet name baby that gets a pass for not giving me the ick.
