An absolutely terrible book that no one should ever read. The author, John Forrester, is single-handedly responsible for setting back cycling in the United States by at least 30 years.
The book basically tells you to cycle as if you're a motor vehicle, which is fine when that's the only option, but he refuses to acknowledge that there are safer options available.
The book is incredibly dismissive of anyone who doesn't want to cycle in traffic and has straight up wrong "facts" about the relative safety of cycling in traffic versus protected bike lanes and other cycling infrastructure.
The advice on bicycle maintenance is largely sound and useful, but not worth reading the rest of the book to get.
Most of the rest of the 800 pages is just nonsense and fluff.
