This reading is not for the weary or faint of heart. As I read more and more of the book I also read some of the criticisms of Zinn’s approach and his handling of U.S. History in general. To those who criticize Zinn, I would say Zinn himself addresses his bias and blind spots. He goes as far as to recommend other texts that help cover the Hispanic people’s perspective in their own voice. He wrote his book with the clear intention of covering the history not taught by most history textbooks.
All that said, I found the book to be a very comprehensive view of U.S. history from the perspective not taught in most public school classrooms. I feel more informed and better off for having read this book.
